Description
RSD-B-XL designates the centralized shut off portion of the rapid shut down system. Only one (1) of these units is required per complete solar system. The RSD-B can accommodate up to 120x RSD-PS unit (240 solar panels).
In order to meet NEC requirements for rapid shut down, the rapid shut down system can draw power from either the main batteries, grid input or the inverter AC output. If installed in a grid tied system which has the capability of feeding back to the grid, the system MUST be wired to the incoming AC power from the grid to meet the code. This ensures that no power feeding back into the grid which could potentially shock workers performing a task on the grid infrastructure. It may also be required in hybrid inverter modes where the grid is present but power is not intentionally fed back to the grid.
Due to the NEC requirements for the shut off process, the rapid shut off system prohibits solar charging if the AC output is no longer ON (if AC is chosen as power source for RSD-B or RSD-B-XL). This can be caused by an operator turning the system off or a low voltage event causing inverter shut off. Once this occurs, the system will not be able to turn back on charge via solar until charged by a generator or grid. If the 48V battery source is chosen as the main power source for RSD-B or RSD-B-XL, the system will continue to allow charging via solar even if the inverter AC output has powered off. This offers a better solution for those who are not connected to the grid or could potentially feed back into the grid. This however does not prevent a situation where the inverter AC has powered OFF and the batteries have depleted and gone into protection mode, likely due to standby power consumption from the inverter or self discharge from the batteries via the natural chemical process. Once the batteries have turned off due to low voltage protection, grid or generator power will be required to revive the system to continue normal operation.
- Can I recharge & discharge at the same time?
Yes, you can.
- How long does it take to charge?
3 hrs - BPE 2.5 kWh
5 hrs - BPE extended or BPE XP 3.6 kWh
- How long does it charge off solar?
Dependent on amount of panels put max.
Max can connect is 780 W = 5-8 hr recharge time dependent on sun conditions
- Delivery?
Free within US/Canada
- Returns?
Can return within 30 days for a full refund, must be in like-new, unused condition.
5% restocking fee + return shipping.
- Do you have a warranty?
6 months commercial warranty + 1 year standard warranty - on everything
2 years or 500 cycles
- How long will it last?
Reference blog post + run time thing + reach out for specific questions.
- Can I leave it outside?
Yes, like anything else, bring indoors, but IP54 rated (weatherproof).
- How long can you leave it without charging?
In storage mode with everything off and fully charged, leave up to 3 months. Longer periods of time can be achieved, but need to top up to maintain battery health.
- How safe is the battery chemistry?
Link to myths.
We use the safest chemistry available for lithium ion. Sophisticated BMS to prevent accidents/issues before they come up.
- What is the maintenance like?
No maintenance required. But if using in dusty locations, we recommend using our vent filters.
- Typical ROI/lifespan?
Depending on the model, 2500-3000 cycles (depending on model). Each cycle is a complete charge and discarhge. Dependent on usage. We find that typically lasts anywhere from 8-20 years. After those cycles, the product is not obsolete, may have reduced performance (operating at < 80%).
The typical pay back period is roughly 2 years, compared against generators + 3x/week.
13. How does the product compare against a generator?
Can be used indoors or outdoors.
Quiet
No fuel/maintenance
No fumes/safer
Lighter
Easier to use
Lower cost over the life of a product (3-5 years for generator)
- What kind fo applications can this be used for?
Construction
Railway
Transit
Mining
Marine
Military
Events
Emergency Response
Backup Power
